Digital television viewing solutions and decoder requirements

Modern televisions often feature integrated digital tuners, allowing users to watch television without an external decoder. To function without additional hardware, a TV must support the DVB-T2 standard and HEVC Main 10 encoding.

According to the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, televisions sold from December 22, 2018, should support these new standards. Users can verify compatibility by checking the technical specifications or the model label on the back of the device. A practical way to test compatibility is to perform an automatic channel scan and look for specific test signals, such as the HEVC Main 10 test sign on channel 200 or specific Rai channels broadcasting with the new standards.

For older televisions that lack these integrated features, an external decoder or additional device remains necessary to receive signals.
