Braunschweig proposes digital innovation strategy using AI and cloud
The city of Braunschweig has proposed an innovation strategy to the city council focused on digital transformation through the use of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data. Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum stated that these technologies aim to provide faster and more effective services for citizens while optimizing administrative processes and reducing the workload for employees.
The strategy includes pilot projects for AI, such as internal AI assistants, automated transcription of committee meetings, and support for processing applications. For citizens, the city plans to enhance web chatbots and test AI assistance for filling out forms. The plan also involves establishing a strategic framework for cloud solutions with a focus on IT security and data protection.
In the broader region of Lower Saxony, the state has centralized its digitalization efforts within a dedicated department of the Ministry of the Interior, Sport and Digitalization. Following the appointment of State Secretary Anke Pörksen, the state has seen improvements in the Bitkom State Index, rising from 12th place in 2024 to 4th place in the 'Governance and Administration' category in 2026.
