Brazil intensifies efforts to combat domestic violence through technology and policy

Authorities and specialists in Brazil are emphasizing the critical role of protective measures and digital tools in combating domestic violence and preventing feminicide. In Mato Grosso, data indicates that 91.1% of feminicide victims between 2019 and 2026 did not have active protective measures in place, highlighting a significant gap in victim safety.

In São Paulo, digital advancements are facilitating faster access to justice. The virtual assistant ‘Júlia’ has handled nearly 36,000 domestic violence-related services since 2020, with a 15% increase in urgent protective measure requests between 2023 and 2025. Currently, 26% of domestic violence reports in the state are filed electronically, allowing for immediate transmission to the Judiciary and the Public Ministry.

Political proposals are also emerging to address the issue. Candidate Wellington Fagundes has proposed the ‘Programa Recomeço’, which aims to provide economic autonomy through microcredit and employment support, alongside increased security via the ‘Patrulha Maria da Penha’. The goal is to combine physical protection with financial independence to help women break the cycle of violence.
