Digital transformation and IoT drive efficiency in facility management
Facility management is undergoing a digital transformation, shifting from purely operational maintenance to a technology-driven business capability. The integration of AI, IoT, cloud platforms, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) allows organizations to centralize data regarding energy consumption, equipment performance, and occupancy. This connectivity enables a transition from reactive maintenance to proactive and predictive approaches, identifying potential issues before equipment failure occurs.
In a practical application of these technologies, one of the United Kingdom’s largest residential property portfolios achieved significant efficiency gains through voltage optimisation. Partnering with Powerhub Solutions, the portfolio implemented energy-saving measures across various sites with differing ages and infrastructures. Over a three-year period, the programme delivered approximately £280,000 in financial savings and nearly 250 tonnes of carbon savings, maintaining an average efficiency improvement of over 7%.
