Digital transformation of media in Cameroon and Africa
Media organizations in Francophone Africa, particularly in Cameroon, are undergoing a significant digital transformation to combat declining traditional audiences. As viewers migrate toward mobile devices, streaming platforms, and social media, traditional broadcasters face the risk of invisibility if they do not adapt.
One case study involves a Cameroonian TNT station, referred to as Télé Horizon, which utilized Pawa TV Cloud to reach its diaspora in Europe and Canada, as well as urban viewers via smartphones. This transition allows regional broadcasters to expand their reach beyond local terrestrial signals to a global audience.
The digitalization process for these media entities includes online broadcasting, the creation of mobile applications, automated programming, and digital monetization strategies. This shift is driven by increasing internet penetration in Sub-Saharan Africa and a younger demographic that prioritizes digital content consumption.
