Digital trends show rising mobile use and financial risks among youth
Recent data highlights a significant shift in digital habits and financial literacy across the Balkan region. In Serbia, mobile phones have become the dominant information and communication device, with 96.9% of households owning one in 2026. This trend coincides with a decline in the use of traditional computers and laptops, as well as a slight decrease in television ownership.
In Croatia, a study conducted by the Karika research agency for the Croatian Association of Banks reveals a gap in financial literacy among young adults aged 18 to 35. While 50% of respondents believe they manage their finances well, only 37% rate their actual financial knowledge positively. The research emphasizes that while digital tools facilitate easy access to banking and investments, many young users overlook the cybersecurity risks associated with mobile payments, online shopping, and cryptocurrency investments.
