Digital veterinary advice provides security for pet owners

Digital veterinary consultation services are providing increased security for pet owners facing uncertain medical situations. Data from Agria Dyreforsikring indicates that digital assessments can serve as an effective first step when owners are unsure if a pet's symptoms require an emergency visit.

According to statistics from the past year, 85 percent of inquiries handled by Agria's digital service did not require an acute consultation with an emergency veterinarian on the same day. Specifically, 55 percent of cases were resolved with advice and guidance provided at home, while 30 percent were advised to contact their regular veterinarian during normal business hours. Only 15 percent of users required immediate, same-day emergency treatment.

Common reasons for seeking digital advice include gastrointestinal issues, such as vomiting in dogs. Veterinarians use video observations and detailed consultations to determine whether a pet can be monitored at home, needs a scheduled appointment, or requires urgent medical intervention.
