Digital wallet adoption grows among Juntos program users in Huánuco
In the Huánuco region of Peru, 3,509 beneficiaries of the Juntos social program have successfully enrolled in the Banco de la Nación digital wallet. This initiative, coordinated with the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis), allows users to perform transfers and service payments via mobile phones, reducing the need to visit physical bank branches. The project has reached 83.3% of its initial goal for this stage of digital inclusion.
Despite the rise of digital wallets, challenges regarding financial literacy persist in Peru. While digital tools have increased financial product access, studies indicate that only 21% of users clearly understand the costs and conditions of their financial products. Experts note that true inclusion requires not just access, but also education to address gaps in connectivity, high informality, and the ability to conduct digital transactions securely.
