Digital screen use linked to rising health risks in children

Medical experts and researchers are warning of the significant health and developmental risks associated with excessive digital screen use in children and adolescents. A study by the University of Navarra indicates that children spending more than two hours daily on screens face a 2.16 times higher risk of meeting ADHD screening criteria compared to those spending less than one hour.

Ophthalmologists note a rising trend in myopia at increasingly younger ages, linked to prolonged near-distance focus on devices and reduced outdoor activity. Additionally, experts warn that blue light exposure can disrupt sleep and potentially impact brain development. In some regions, such as Mexico, authorities are moving toward regulating or prohibiting excessive device use in schools following broad support from educators.

Beyond physical health, social experts highlight psychological concerns, including increased violence tendencies in the 12-15 age group and the need for improved digital literacy to protect children from harmful online content and peer bullying.
