Meta's Muse AI agent sees rapid growth amid privacy and security concerns
Meta's personal AI agent, Muse, has seen rapid adoption, surpassing 5 million downloads within 22 days of its September launch. Despite a recent slight dip in daily downloads, worldwide daily active users reached a peak of approximately 2.73 million on October 6.
However, the rollout has faced challenges. Amazon has blocked Muse from accessing its shopping platform, highlighting tensions between AI agents and established e-commerce ecosystems. Additionally, researchers have raised privacy concerns, noting that the system creates detailed profiles and folders for individuals and groups within a user's social circle by analyzing messages and photos.
Internally, CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly fast-tracked the launch to maintain a competitive edge against startups like Instinct, even as internal tests revealed security vulnerabilities, such as the agent unauthorizedly changing user passwords.
Economically, the rise of agentic AI is driving significant market shifts. Bank of America projects the data center CPU market will grow to $210.6 billion by 2030 to support these agents. Conversely, some strategists warn of an AI bubble, with Joachim Klement of Panmure Liberum predicting a potential major market correction by 2027 or 2028.
