Digitalization improves pharmacy inventory and internal logistics tracking

Digitalization in pharmacy logistics is focusing on bridging the gap between stock booking and the physical movement of goods. For hospital pharmacies, ensuring that medical supplies reach their intended recipients requires more than just digital inventory records; it requires tracking the actual internal transport process.

COSYS pharmacy software aims to address this by integrating internal transport (IBT) into the digital workflow. By using mobile devices to scan items, manage storage locations, and document pickings, the software tracks batches and expiration dates. This approach seeks to eliminate the digital break between an item being 'picked' and it actually 'arriving' at its destination, providing better traceability during internal handovers.

Effective inventory management also relies on real-time data entry at the point of physical movement. Rather than recording transactions later at a workstation, staff can use smartphones or mobile data entry (MDE) devices to log incoming goods, transfers, and withdrawals immediately. This reduces discrepancies where systems report stock that is not physically present in the expected location.
