Digitalization trends in Spanish and Ecuadorian education
In Spain, the Educate to Empower Index 2026, commissioned by Epson, reveals a disconnect between technological investment and pedagogical integration. While 66% of technology managers report increased digital tool adoption in the last year, 88% of teachers and 90% of technology managers believe investments have focused disproportionately on hardware rather than instructional strategies. The study notes that 73% of educators feel technological adoption has accelerated without a corresponding increase in effective classroom use, and 70% of teachers believe excessive weight is being given to Artificial Intelligence.
In Ecuador, the government has launched the Aula Digital project as part of a digital transformation plan spanning 2026 to 2029. Through an agreement with Google Education and CNT, the government will invest $50 million to centralize academic information and facilitate learning tracking for 2.8 million public system students and 165,000 teachers. An initial $8.5 million is allocated for the current year to provide access to tools such as Google Classroom, Google Meet, and Gemini. A separate $39.58 million project aims to address connectivity challenges in rural areas.
