Dijon tourism faces challenges from 2026 heatwaves

The 2026 summer tourism season in Dijon and its metropolitan area was characterized by significant challenges due to repeated heatwaves. According to data presented by Dijon Bourgogne Tourisme & Congrès, the region saw 118,602 visitors at tourism welcome points, representing an 11% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.

The decline was particularly sharp in June and July, with attendance dropping by 18% and 20% respectively. Officials attribute these figures to extreme weather conditions, which discouraged visitors from participating in outdoor activities and guided tours.

Despite the drop in overall attendance, the destination showed resilience in other sectors. The hotel industry maintained strong performance, major cultural events continued to draw crowds, and the region maintained a significant international clientele. Local authorities are now looking toward 2027 to adapt to changing tourist behaviors and climate realities.
