Dikhow River erosion threatens Sivasagar–Nazira road

Severe erosion along the banks of the Dikhow River in Assam’s Sivasagar district is threatening local residents and the critical Sivasagar–Nazira road. Following recent devastating floods, the receding waters have revealed significant damage, particularly along a one-kilometre stretch between Hahchara Kujibali and Singhadwar Manipuri Tiniali.

Erosion on both banks has already washed away several agricultural plots and homesteads. Residents in the Hahchara Mouza area expressed concern that the B. G. Road, a vital transport link, is at imminent risk of being damaged or washed away.

Local communities have called on the Water Resources Department to conduct immediate inspections and implement permanent, scientifically designed erosion-control measures. There are growing fears that without urgent intervention, subsequent flood seasons could cause even more extensive damage to homes, farmland, and public infrastructure.
