Dilek Doğan death following Istanbul police raid

Dilek Doğan, a 25-year-old woman, died following a police raid on her family home in the Sariyer district of Istanbul on October 18, 2015. The operation, conducted by special operations police, was part of a search for a suspected suicide bomber linked to the DHKP-C terrorist organization.

During the raid, a verbal dispute arose when Doğan and her family requested that the officers wear shoe covers (galoshes) to maintain the cleanliness of the home. During the confrontation, a police officer identified as Y. M. discharged a firearm, striking Doğan in the chest. Although she was hospitalized and received intensive care, she passed away one week later on October 25, 2015.

While the officer initially claimed the shooting was accidental during a physical struggle, police camera footage presented during legal proceedings contradicted these claims, showing no physical assault or attempt to seize the weapon by the family. In March 2017, the Istanbul 12th High Criminal Court issued a ruling regarding the incident, addressing the distinction between intentional killing and death caused by conscious negligence.
