Diễm My: Rare archival photos reveal vintage hairstyles

Journalist Lê Quang Thanh Tâm has released a collection of rare, restored archival photographs of the actress Diễm My, often referred to as the ‘queen of calendar photos.’ The images, which were preserved in the archives of Màn ảnh Sân khấu - Thế giới Nghệ sỹ magazine, primarily date back to the late 1980s.

The collection showcases a departure from Diễm My’s signature long-haired look, featuring several portraits where she sports a voluminous short hairstyle. The restored film photographs capture various styles, including 1990s-inspired heavy makeup and diverse settings ranging from elegant lace attire to casual scenes in Saigon.

Some of the photographs are believed to have been captured by renowned photographers such as Hữu Tuấn, Đức Huy, and Đoàn Minh Tuấn. The collection also includes a portrait identified as her final film photograph, taken by Lý Võ Phú Hưng on February 2, 2005.
