Dimagi Naxal Party Instagram account goes viral after Modi remarks

An Instagram account named ‘Dimagi Naxal Party’ has rapidly gained popularity, amassing hundreds of thousands of followers following remarks made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech. During his address from the Red Fort, Modi used the term ‘dimagi Naxal’ (ideological Naxal) to describe individuals he claimed were spreading Maoist ideology within government institutions and seeking to divide the country.

In response, the anonymous social media account has adopted the term as a form of political satire. Using the slogan “Think, Research, Resist,” the page aims to reclaim the label, suggesting that questioning the government should be a point of pride for the youth. The account’s operators have stated they will remain anonymous until they reach one million followers.

The term has sparked significant political debate. While Union Minister Kiren Rijiju clarified that the Prime Minister was targeting Maoist supporters and those rejecting the Constitution rather than opposition leaders, Congress leader P. Chidambaram embraced the label on social media. The account has experienced brief periods of unavailability, with operators claiming they faced cyberattacks.
