Dimapur police seize nearly 20,000 bottles of suspected codeine syrup

Dimapur police seized 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup during a raid at a warehouse in Marwari Patti on August 25, 2026. The seizure, totaling 126 cartons, has prompted widespread support from local organizations.

The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) and the Nagaland Medicine Dealers Association (NMDA) have both commended the police and the Anti-Narcotic Task Force for the operation. The NCD has called for the arrest of all individuals involved in the illegal drug trade and expressed concern regarding the potential existence of other hidden stores in the city. They also urged civil society and church leaders to assist law enforcement in curbing the sale of prohibited substances.

The NMDA, representing medicine dealers in the state, condemned any license holders involved in malpractice or the misuse of licenses for illegal activities. The association stated it would cooperate fully with the drugs control department to promote ethical pharmaceutical practices and a drug-free society.
