Dimapur vendors warned against Sunday morning trading

The Street Vendors Association Nagaland (SVAN) has issued a warning to street vendors and hawkers in Dimapur against conducting commercial activities during Sunday morning worship hours. An internal survey conducted around 4:30 am on a Sunday revealed that numerous vendors, including those arriving from neighboring Assam, were opening for business in several commercial areas.

Specific locations identified where violations were reported include Durga Mandir, Netaji Colony, Marwaripati, New Market, Supermarket, Railway Bazaar, Hazipark (Hong Kong Market), and the Blue Hill Station area. SVAN stated that while they respect all faiths, religious observances in the predominantly Christian state of Nagaland should be honored.

Vendors found violating these directives may face enforcement actions in coordination with local authorities, which could include substantial fines or the confiscation of goods. SVAN noted that exemptions exist for essential services and local vendors dealing in perishable food commodities, who are permitted to operate after 12 noon on Sundays. All other general commercial vending and roadside stalls must remain closed during the restricted morning hours.
