Colombia's Liga BetPlay adopts 10‑second substitution rule and new injury timeout
On 24 July 2026 the División Mayor del Fútbol Colombiano (DIMAYOR) announced that all professional competitions in the Liga BetPlay II‑2026 will follow the International Football Association Board’s (IFAB) updated regulations that were first applied at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Key changes include a mandatory 10‑second window for a player to leave the field after a substitution; if the limit is exceeded the replacement must wait a full minute before entering. When a player is treated for an injury on the pitch, he must stay off the field for at least one minute before re‑entering, except for goalkeepers, teammate collisions, injuries resulting from a caution or red card, and penalty takers. Goalkeepers also have an eight‑second limit for holding the ball, with a corner kick awarded to the opposition for violations.
Additional measures tighten penalties for delayed throw‑ins, goal‑kicks and other restarts, expand VAR intervention on erroneous corners and double‑yellow expulsions, remove playoffs, introduce semifinal quadrangulars, and keep the squad size capped at 25 players.
