Dimboola resident leads Wimmera tour to Western Front and Gallipoli
Pam Cupper of Dimboola has recently returned from leading a tour group to the Western Front and Gallipoli. The group included a significant representation of people from the Wimmera and Mallee regions.
Ms. Cupper, who co-authored the 1989 guidebook ‘Gallipoli: A Battlefield Guide’ with her husband Phil Taylor, has led several historical tours since 2017. The recent September tour included visits to various sites, such as the First Australian Division Memorial at Pozières on the Somme.
During the tour, Ms. Cupper visited the grave of Private Allan Matthews of the 3rd Australian Pioneers in the Abbeville Communal Cemetery Extension in northern France. Private Matthews, a relative of Phil Taylor, died on October 25, 1918, shortly before the Armistice.
