Dimitrios Markos sets national record in 800m freestyle
Greek swimmer Dimitrios Markos achieved a new national record in the 800m freestyle at the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris. After qualifying with a time of 7:47.26, Markos improved his performance in the final, finishing fifth with a time of 7:43.52.
The 800m freestyle final was won by Germany’s Johannes Liebmann, who set a new European record with a time of 7:37.59. Sven Schwarz of Germany took second place, followed by Hungary’s Zalan Sarkanyi in third. Olympic medalist Daniel Wiffen of Ireland finished fourth.
In addition to Markos’s performance, Greek swimmer Apostolos Siskos advanced to the final of the 200m backstroke, positioning himself as a potential medal contender.
