Dimitris Kokotas dies at 57 after long health battle
Greek singer Dimitris Kokotas has passed away at the age of 57 after a prolonged medical battle. He died at Gennimatas Hospital following a period of hospitalization that began in March 2024.
His health crisis was triggered on March 28, 2024, when he suffered a severe myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest during rehearsals for the television show ‘J2US’. Despite medical efforts over nearly two years, he succumbed to septic shock.
The son of the late folk singer Stamatis Kokotas, Dimitris established a successful career in the 1990s, collaborating with prominent composers like Foivos and Nikos Karvelas. His notable albums include ‘Diadosies’, ‘Syneisi’, and ‘Acharistia’.
The Municipality of Agia Varvara, where Kokotas served as a municipal councilor, has announced it will cover his funeral expenses. The council also voted to observe a minute of silence, fly the municipal flag at half-mast, and establish a scholarship and name a hall in his honor at the municipal conservatory.
