Dimitris Koutsoumpas criticizes Greek government economic policies

Dimitris Koutsoumpas, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), has criticized the Greek government's recent economic announcements, arguing they fail to meet the modern needs of workers and the public.

Speaking at the Thessaloniki International Fair, Koutsoumpas challenged the government's 'growth dividend' narrative. He noted that while the government announced measures totaling 2.2 billion euros, total tax revenues are expected to exceed 74 billion euros this year, with the majority coming from the working classes. He criticized the tax policies regarding large business groups, energy companies, banks, and shipowners, claiming they continue to benefit from favorable tax regimes.

The KKE leader proposed an alternative political path focused on socialized economic tools and popular governance to move away from the influence of the EU and NATO. He emphasized the need to protect labor rights, including collective bargaining, the eight-hour workday, and additional pensions, while addressing the rising production costs faced by farmers.
