Dimitris Koutsoumpas warns of major Greek school staff shortages
Dimitris Koutsoumpas, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), visited the 1st General Lyceum of Papagou to meet with school administration and the teachers' association. During the visit, significant concerns were raised regarding the start of the new school year, specifically highlighting massive shortages in educational personnel.
Koutsoumpas noted that there have been few permanent hires for teachers, instructors, and kindergarten teachers this year. He emphasized a particular lack of substitute teachers in the sectors of special education and parallel support. Other issues discussed included class mergers, student transfers, and deficiencies in school infrastructure and teacher housing.
Additionally, Koutsoumpas criticized the government's policy regarding the public consultation for the National Baccalaureate. He argued that the New Democracy government's approach turns schools into vast examination centers, which will increase stress for students and create financial burdens for families.
