Démis Nikolaïdis discusses divorce and personal loss

Former footballer Démis Nikolaïdis has shared personal reflections regarding his divorce from singer Despina Vandi and the death of his partner, Alexandra Nikolaidou, during an interview on the LiFO podcast ‘Sklires Alitheies’.

Regarding his divorce from Vandi, which occurred after 18 years of marriage, Nikolaïdis described the separation as a form of loss, even when it is a mutual and necessary decision. He noted that people can grow apart over time and that changes in family life and lifestyle are difficult to navigate, particularly when children are involved.

He also spoke about the passing of Alexandra Nikolaidou in August 2025 at the age of 41. Nikolaïdis expressed the profound pain of losing a loved one at a young age, stating that the experience was deeply costly due to their close bond, but noted the dignity he witnessed during her struggle with cancer.

Additionally, Nikolaïdis touched upon his professional football career, including his time with AEK and his experience during Euro 2004, where he required medical intervention to compete.
