Dina Duma's ‘Skateboarding Is Not for Girls’ to Premiere at Sarajevo Film Festival after Jerusalem Win
Director Dina Duma’s feature film “Skateboarding Is Not for Girls” has been selected for the main competition at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival, where it will have its European premiere and contend for the Sarajevo Heart award. The film previously secured the “Coming Soon” prize in the “In the Spirit of Freedom” competition at the 43rd Jerusalem Film Festival.
During its development phase in 2022, the project earned the Film Centre Serbia CineLink Award and the Female Voices CineLink Award at the CineLink Industry Days program of the Sarajevo festival. Its world premiere took place at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, where it won the Nora Ephron award. The story follows sisters Adel and Zara as they navigate economic uncertainty, family pressures and societal expectations, highlighting themes of women’s growth, freedom and solidarity. The Sarajevo festival runs from 14 to 21 August 2026, and the Jerusalem jury praised the film’s nuanced portrait of women in restrictive environments, noting its balance of humor, empathy and sharp social commentary.
