Dinara mountain hosts student volunteer camp for habitat restoration

From September 12 to 19, an educational and volunteer camp will be held on Mount Dinara to focus on the restoration of Dinaric grasslands. Organized by Udruga Biom and partners as part of the Mosaic of LIFE project, the initiative will bring together 20 students from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Participants from various academic backgrounds, including ecology, forestry, biology, and environmental science, will combine theoretical knowledge with practical field work. The primary goal is to combat the encroachment of woody vegetation, such as Juniperus oxycedrus, which threatens the open grassland habitats caused by the decline in traditional livestock grazing. Students will manually remove and prune woody plants to help maintain the biodiversity of these vulnerable ecosystems.
