Madhya Pradesh floods: Narmada River overflows and schools close
Heavy rainfall across Madhya Pradesh has caused significant disruption, particularly in the Dindori district, where rising water levels in the Narmada River have submerged two bridges. This has severed road connectivity between Dindori and Jabalpur on the Jabalpur-Amarkantak National Highway. Authorities have blocked vehicular movement on affected bridges and deployed police and revenue teams to monitor the situation.
In Dindori, seven families living near the riverbank have been moved to shelter homes. The district administration also declared a holiday on August 10 for all schools from nursery to Class 12, as well as for Anganwadi centers, to prioritize student safety. A tragic incident was reported in the Gadasarai area, where a seven-year-old boy died after a mud house collapsed due to the rains.
In the state capital, Bhopal, intense rainfall led to waterlogging and the closure of schools from nursery to Class 12. Other districts including Raisen, Sehore, Vidisha, and Shajapur have also reported impacts from the heavy weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued warnings for very heavy rainfall in several regions, including an orange warning for Rajgarh, Vidisha, Sehore, Harda, and Dewas.
