DINEPA launches new drinking water system in Vallières, Haiti

The National Directorate for Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) has officially commissioned a new drinking water supply system (SAEP) in Vallières, located in Haiti’s North-East department. The inauguration took place on Friday, September 4, 2026, in collaboration with the North Regional Office for Water and Sanitation (OREPA Nord).

Construction of the infrastructure began on January 21, 2026, as part of a project to support OREPA in implementing activities within rural and peri-urban areas. This initiative is supported by the PAP 3 and Grand-Nord programs. The project was funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to the Haitian state for the benefit of DINEPA, following a contract between DINEPA and UNICEF.

The ceremony was attended by DINEPA Director General Théophil Ostinvil, OREPA Nord Regional Director Pierre Bernardin Poisson, and local officials including the Mayor of Vallières, Castel Latortue. The new system aims to strengthen DINEPA’s ability to expand access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services across various rural regions of the country.
