India defeats Sri Lanka by 165 runs in Galle Test
India secured a 165-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Galle, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The win, achieved during India’s 600th Test match, also provides a boost to their World Test Championship campaign.
Young left-arm spinner Manav Suthar was the standout performer, claiming a match haul of 10 wickets, including 6/55 in the second innings. Devdutt Padikkal earned Player of the Match honors after scoring 167 in the first innings and 44 in the second. Other notable contributions included Rishabh Pant’s 66 runs and a milestone of becoming the first Indian batter to hit 100 Test sixes.
Sri Lanka, chasing a target of 372, was bowled out for 206. Despite resistance from Sonal Dinusha, who scored 84 in the second innings following a century in the first, and captain Dhananjaya de Silva, who made 59, the Indian bowling attack proved decisive. The match concluded shortly before heavy rain arrived in Galle.
