Dinesh Sharma appointed Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The appointment, announced by Rashtrapati Bhavan, will take effect once Sharma officially assumes charge of the office.

Sharma, 62, succeeds Admiral (Retd) Devendra Kumar Joshi, who has held the position since October 2017. Sharma brings a diverse background to the role, having previously served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2017 to 2022, where he managed portfolios including higher education, science and technology, and information technology. His political career also includes two terms as the Mayor of Lucknow and roles within the BJP's organizational structure.

In response to the appointment, Sharma expressed his gratitude to President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the central leadership. He emphasized the strategic importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and pledged to fulfill his duties with devotion and dedication toward the Constitution and the nation.
