Dingsheng Minerals nears resumption of Mozambique mining operations
Dingsheng Minerals, a Chinese-owned company mining heavy mineral sands in the Chibuto district of Mozambique’s Gaza province, is expected to resume operations shortly. The facility has faced months of inactivity caused by regulatory hurdles and the destruction of five core production lines.
Full resumption depends on restoring the plant’s water supply system and acquiring essential export equipment. Jaime Neto, the Secretary of State for Gaza province, noted that the expected arrival of tugboats at the Port of Chongoene by the end of the month is a critical step. Additionally, new facilities at the port to house state services have been completed to support the transport and export of minerals such as ilmenite, zircon, and rutile.
Restarting exports is expected to generate revenue for local community demands, including compensation and development projects. Previously, the company struggled with large-scale exports because transporting small quantities through the Port of Maputo was not economically viable.
