Dinkelsbühl Road Covered in Sugar Syrup After Truck Leak, Cleanup Costs €10,000

In late July 2026 a 31‑year‑old truck driver transporting two 1,000‑liter containers of sugar syrup for an agricultural trader suffered a technical defect, causing the syrup to leak onto the road near Dinkelsbühl in the Ansbach district. The spill created a roughly seven‑kilometre sticky trail across state road 2220 and district road AN 45, contaminating the surface and several vehicles, including a local bus company’s fleet.

Police reported that the driver noticed the problem after about seven kilometres, stopped, and alerted his company, which arranged for the load to be off‑loaded and for specialist road‑maintenance crews to clean the affected sections. The extensive cleaning effort, carried out by the Feuchtwangen road master’s office, cost an estimated €10,000. The incident caused significant traffic disruption but no injuries were reported.
