Dino Melaye discusses wealth, economic issues, and 2027 election prospects

Former Kogi State Senator Dino Melaye has addressed several aspects of Nigeria’s political and economic landscape during an appearance on the KAA Truths podcast. Regarding his personal wealth, Melaye claimed to own over 200 cars but asserted he has never secured a government contract at the federal or state levels.

Melaye offered a critique of Nigeria’s economic structure, suggesting that the high density of religious institutions compared to industrial sectors indicates deep economic issues. He cited an observation in Ibadan where a single six-storey building housed approximately 40 churches, arguing that a healthy economy requires more productive industries than religious centers.

On the political front, Melaye discussed the prospects for the 2027 general elections. He characterized Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, as a “regional champion” and argued that such a label would prevent him from securing the presidency. In contrast, he described Atiku Abubakar as a “nationalist.”

Additionally, Melaye criticized religious leaders who praise the current administration's efforts while the country continues to face insecurity, kidnappings, and killings. He questioned the stance of Pastor Enoch Adeboye regarding President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, suggesting that religious perspectives on governance might be influenced by ethnic considerations.
