Singapore Embassy denies claims of meeting with Indonesian opposition figures

The Singapore Embassy in Jakarta has officially denied viral social media claims alleging that former Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal and academic Saiful Mujani visited the Singaporean Ambassador’s residence on October 18, 2026. The embassy labeled the reports as disinformation and stated it would cooperate with Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital to address the matter.

Dino Patti Djalal rejected the allegations, describing them as “100 percent fictitious” and orchestrated by a “shadowy team” to create false narratives of collusion. Djalal clarified that he was in Perth, Australia, attending an international climate change conference organized by Global Citizen during the time of the alleged meeting.

The Gerindra Party is also investigating the claims through its members in Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). While Gerindra noted that constructive criticism of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration is a legitimate part of democracy, the party emphasized that such criticism should not involve foreign interests or hidden agendas.
