Diocese of Campeche issues fraud alert over impersonation

The Diocese of Campeche has issued an alert regarding fraudulent profiles and phone numbers impersonating religious leaders to solicit money. Scammers are using the names and images of Bishop José Alberto González Juárez and Vicar General Marcos Rubén Cohuó Muñoz to request bank transfers and economic aid.

Identified fraudulent numbers include 981 327 1939 and 287 247 09 55, though the institution warned that other accounts may be in use. The Diocese clarified that it does not request funds through personal profiles or unknown telephone numbers.

Authorities advise the public, including priests, parishes, and community groups, to verify any requests before making transactions. Recommended precautions include not providing personal or banking information, refusing to make deposits to unknown numbers, and reporting suspicious profiles to the Diocese.
