Diocese of Lugano prepares for synodal assembly in May
The Diocese of Lugano is preparing for a diocesan synodal assembly scheduled for May 22 and 23. This event serves as a focal point for the new pastoral year, aimed at revitalizing community life and involving new participants within parishes and pastoral networks.
Massimo Gaia, the episcopal delegate for pastoral care, described the assembly as an extraordinary opportunity for priests and the faithful to engage in a process of rethinking ecclesial life. The diocesan roadmap involves a four-level approach, beginning at the parish level and ascending through pastoral networks and vicariates before reaching the final assembly in Lugano.
This initiative is part of the broader implementation phase of the Synod on Synodality, a process initiated by Pope Francis in 2021 that is expected to continue through 2028. The local Church is working to understand how to effectively live and implement synodality within its own structures.
