Diocese of Porto launches preparations for Diocesan Synod

The Diocese of Porto is initiating a period of active preparation for its Diocesan Synod, which is scheduled to run from 2026 through June 2028 under the motto ‘Being Porto: Form, Reform, Transform’.

Starting in September 2026, the diocese will hold formation meetings within various vicarages to prepare communities for the synodal work planned for 2027. These meetings, themed ‘Tuning the Synod’, will utilize the ‘Conversation in the Spirit’ method to facilitate communication and participation. A guide has been released by the General Secretariat to assist in this process.

In alignment with this synodal process, the Centro de Cultura Católica do Porto (CCC) has reopened registrations for its 2026/2027 courses. The curriculum includes the Diocesan School of Liturgical Ministries for roles such as Acolyte, Reader, and Music, as well as a Basic Theology course for catechists, religious figures, and candidates for the permanent diaconate. To accommodate those in distant areas, some theological training will be conducted via virtual classrooms.
