Diocese of Quilmes approves eight pastoral guidelines

The Diocese of Quilmes has concluded its Third Diocesan Synod, approving eight pastoral guidelines to direct the church's activities in the Berazategui, Varela, and Quilmes regions for the next five years. The sessions, presided over by Bishop Carlos José Tissera and auxiliary bishop Eduardo Redondo, involved 260 representatives from various parishes and communities.

The approved initiatives focus on several key areas: strengthening lay participation through ministerial training, creating a Ministry of Solidarity, and establishing a Vicariate for Women to increase female involvement in decision-making. Other priorities include institutionalizing Family Ministry, providing multidisciplinary support for youth and families, and developing a Communication Ministry.

The synodal process, which began in 2018 and was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, will culminate with the formal presentation of final documents on September 19 during the diocese's 50th-anniversary mass. Additionally, the assembly unanimously supported Bishop Tissera's proposal to institute the second Sunday of August as ‘Social Justice Sunday’ in memory of the Riojan martyrs.
