Diocese of Quilmes celebrates 50th anniversary

The Diocese of Quilmes, covering the Quilmes, Berazategui, and Florencio Varela regions, celebrated its 50th anniversary with a massive series of events on September 19, 2026. The Golden Jubilee included marches from various decanates toward the Cathedral, a central Mass, and a public festival.

The celebration honored the legacy of the diocese's first bishop, Jorge Novak, and featured messages from Pope Francis and Apostolic Nuncio Michael Banach. The central Mass was presided over by Bishop Carlos José Tissera, with a homily delivered by Archbishop Marcelo Colombo, president of the Argentine Episcopal Conference.

The anniversary coincides with a period of institutional transition, as Bishop Tissera has formally submitted his resignation due to reaching the ecclesiastical age limit. He will remain in his position until the Holy See appoints a successor.
