Diocese of Quilmes priest to face oral trial for sexual abuse
The Diocese of Quilmes has announced that the criminal case against priest Franco Lutens is proceeding to oral trial. Lutens, who is currently under preventive detention, faces charges of triple sexual abuse.
Bishop Carlos José Tissera expressed deep sorrow for the victims and their families, reaffirming the diocese's commitment to cooperate transparently with judicial authorities. The decision to move to trial was made by Judge Francisco Arturo Martínez Garmendia of the Berazategui Guarantees Court.
In response to the developments, Bishop Tissera and Auxiliary Bishop Eduardo Redondo emphasized the mandatory nature of the diocese's 'Protocol for the Prevention of Abuse and Promotion of Safe Environments.' The diocese stated that compliance with these safety norms is binding for all clergy, pastoral agents, and volunteers working with minors or vulnerable adults.
