Diocese of Setúbal provides emergency equipment to 16 fire departments

Cardinal Américo Aguiar, Bishop of Setúbal, has donated emergency response equipment to 16 fire departments within the Diocese of Setúbal. The initiative, promoted by the Sanctuary of Christ the King as part of its social responsibility program, represents an investment exceeding 80,000 euros.

Each fire department received a kit containing a chainsaw, a generator, a submersible water pump, and a sludge pump. These tools are intended to strengthen operational capacities during emergencies, such as the severe weather events experienced during the recent winter. The decision to distribute specific equipment to multiple departments was made to ensure equitable support across the region, rather than purchasing a single ambulance.

In a separate pastoral initiative, Cardinal Aguiar is also conducting a visit to the parishes of Arrentela, Paio Pires, and Seixal. This visit, running until November 8, focuses on engaging with vulnerable populations, including the elderly, the sick, and those facing economic difficulties, through meetings with local schools, social institutions, and community associations.
