Diocese of Würzburg to build new Elisabethenheim primary school

The Diocese of Würzburg has announced plans to construct a new building for the ‘Elisabethenheim’ primary school in Würzburg's city center. The decision comes in response to high demand, with registration numbers reportedly double the available capacity. The current building is considered dilapidated and no longer economically sustainable to renovate.

The new facility is expected to be completed by the 2029/2030 school year and will accommodate up to 190 children. The project will feature all-day care from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a focus on Christian-social education and musical pedagogy.

Construction will require the demolition of an old concrete building. The total costs are estimated to be in the low double-digit millions, with the Free State of Bavaria expected to provide approximately half of the funding. Despite ongoing austerity measures within Bavarian Catholic dioceses, the Diocese stated that a change in school sponsorship is not being considered for financial or strategic reasons.
