Cardinal Américo Aguiar addresses AI and completes pastoral visit

Cardinal Américo Aguiar, Bishop of Setúbal, has been active in several religious leadership roles across Portugal and Spain. In Getafe, Spain, he opened the 2026-2027 Pastoral Year with a conference addressing the challenges of evangelization in an era of algorithms and artificial intelligence. He emphasized that while technology can aid the common good, the core of the Church's mission remains human presence, relationship, and connection with Christ.

In Portugal, the Cardinal concluded an 11-day pastoral visit to the Parish of Our Lady of Mount Zion in Amora, where he met with over 3,000 people. He highlighted community strengths in education and healthcare while noting social challenges such as loneliness, housing, and the integration of immigrants.

Other regional religious activities include the start of the new Pastoral Year in the Diocese of Santarém and a commemorative event in Évora honoring Saint Francis of Assis, which included the approval of a new Rule of Life for the Poverello community.
