SS Lazio signs defender Diogo Leite as free agent

SS Lazio has officially signed Portuguese defender Diogo Leite as a free agent following his departure from Union Berlin. The 27-year-old center-back has agreed to a contract consisting of two years with an option for two additional years. His arrival is intended to bolster the defensive line managed by Gennaro Gattuso, particularly following the departure of Alessio Romagnoli to Al-Sadd.

Leite will reunite with former Union Berlin teammate Danilho Doekhi at Lazio. The club's strategy focused on free transfers to manage liquidity constraints. While the transfer market is largely considered closed, Lazio continues to monitor free agents such as Marcelo Brozovic and Mauro Icardi as potential options should squad availability change.

Leite's signing follows interest from Leeds United earlier in the summer. He is scheduled to be officially presented at a press conference on Wednesday, September 9.
