Diomede Barchiesi dies after fatal assault in Fossacesia

Diomede Barchiesi, a 50-year-old man from Lanciano and employee of Stellantis, has died following an assault on the Fossacesia seafront in the province of Chieti. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 9-10 when Barchiesi intervened to protect his 18-year-old son during a confrontation with other youths.

According to reports, Barchiesi was struck in the jaw by a punch delivered by another 18-year-old. The impact caused him to fall heavily and lose consciousness. He was rushed to the hospital in Atessa and subsequently transferred to Pescara Hospital, where he underwent neurosurgery for severe traumatic brain injury.

The Asl of Pescara confirmed that after a period of observation following a diagnosis of brain death, the medical board officially certified his passing. The legal investigation is ongoing, and the charges against the individual identified as the assailant may be upgraded following the fatality.
