Diomede Barchiesi dies after fatal assault in Fossacesia

Diomede Barchiesi, a 50-year-old man from Lanciano, has died following a violent altercation in Fossacesia. Barchiesi was hospitalized in Pescara after sustaining a severe traumatic brain injury during an attempt to intervene in a fight involving his 18-year-old son. He was struck by a punch, causing him to fall.

Following the certification of brain death, Barchiesi’s organs were donated in accordance with his prior expressed wishes. The donation process, completed at Pescara Hospital, saw his heart sent to Bergamo, his kidneys to L’Aquila, and his liver to Pisa.

The incident has caused significant local mourning in the Abruzzo region. The Mayor of Fossacesia suspended local musical and entertainment activities as a sign of respect. Carabinieri investigations, coordinated by the Prosecutor of Lanciano, are ongoing to determine exact responsibilities, as the initial charge against the suspect may be upgraded following the death.
