Dior's Swift wedding win fuels luxury market rivalry
Christian Dior created the custom bridal looks for pop star Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce at their July 3 wedding in New York’s Madison Square Garden. The house confirmed the gowns and Travis’s white suit were crafted in its Paris ateliers and that the bride wore Dior shoes and Cartier jewellery. Designer Jonathan Anderson said the project was “an emotional thing” and that he became close friends with Swift.
The high‑profile commission amplified Dior’s visibility at a time when the luxury sector is slowing and rival Chanel is leading growth forecasts. Analysts noted the partnership could help Dior regain market share; the brand’s share price rose modestly after the news.
Two days later Dior opened its Fall‑Winter 2026‑27 haute couture show at the Musée Rodin, drawing on sculptor Lynda Benglis’s pleating techniques and Indian chintz motifs. The collection featured sculptural garments, hand‑plissé details and accessories, with celebrity guests including Han So Hee, who modelled a pastel silk‑satin slip dress. The show underscored Dior’s creative direction under Anderson and its strategy to merge heritage with contemporary cultural relevance.
