Venezuela: Activist proposes amnesty law amid dialogue disputes
In Venezuela, political tensions persist as human rights activist Javier Tarazona, president of Fundaredes, has proposed a new amnesty law to ensure the full release of all political prisoners. Tarazona also called for the creation of a national fund to provide reparations to detainees and their families for damages incurred during their imprisonment.
Contrasting these demands, Diosdado Cabello, Secretary General of the PSUV, denied that the release of political prisoners has been a topic of discussion in the ongoing dialogue between the government and the opposition. Cabello maintained that recent prisoner releases were the result of internal government reviews rather than negotiated agreements, and criticized NGOs and opposition figures for their involvement in the matter.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders such as Andrés Velásquez and Alfredo Ramos have expressed skepticism regarding regional elections, arguing that a definitive presidential election schedule is necessary for a true democratic transition. In international news, Venezuela and India have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of science, technology, and digital transformation.
